Start at the Beginning?

You might think we'd start at the beginning; as they say, it's a very good place to start. But, we're going to drop you right into the middle of one of the most exciting and stressful times in our lives! As the pandemic was unfolding, we were living in our "old" house and just found out we were expecting our second child. Our home was beautiful and after lots of minor updates we were happy with it overall, however long term we knew it was not what we wanted and it was quickly approaching the time that we would need to invest money for major updates such as a water heater, furnace and a new roof.

Exciting, right?

We made the decision to sell our house with the dream of building our beautiful new forever home. We soon realized that would not be an option with the unexpected housing boom our market experienced in response to the pandemic. Building materials and building costs sky-rocketed as a result of supply and demand, and it quickly became too expensive to build.

Still excited about our new addition, but getting a little stressed about housing!

We chose to put half of our items in storage and settle for a small rental home about half the size of our prior home, while we looked at our options, hoping this would allow some time for the housing market to cool off a bit. A few months quickly turned into over a year and we welcomed our second daughter, continued the house hunt, and tried our very best to make the most of our situation.

We reflect on those times and -- kidding, not kidding -- recall that our prayer life had never been better. We needed answers. We needed inspiration. We needed clarity. It appeared we were quickly getting priced out of our home town, where we had both been born and raised and were desperate for a solution to get us out of our rental situation and into something more permanent.

Opportunities came and went; doors opened and closed. Nothing was feeling quite right for what seemed like an eternity. One night, we were over at Kyra's parents house for dinner and noticed the house across the street was listed for sale.

Kyra immediately noted that there is no way she could live across the street from her parents. Almost as a joke we told our realtor we would like to walk through it.

No harm in just looking... right?!
